Here is the situation I'm having. We have 5 CMM's total (2 B&S Global, 2 B&S Advantage, and 1 B&S Mistrial) with one of the Globals being a large CMM. Being a large CMM, it gets the bigger parts and larger programs to run and I typically start working on other parts or programs on other CMMs while the big one is running. Also important to note (and the reason for the post), it does not have a probe changer so we have to manually change probes.

So the question is this: is there a way to use DMIS to program the jog box to beep a series of beeps so we know it's time for a probe change/crash/program ends? We don't have speakers hooked up (company doesn't want that) or a speaker in the computer so that is not an option.

This comes up because none of the other computers/CMMs are placed in a way to where we can easily visually monitor the big cmm and when I really get my head into working on another part/program, I tend to forget that there is another CMM running that may need attention.

The only other option I can think of is to get the cmm status on whatever other computer I am using.

Nope, yer just gonna have to tell mgmt that you MUST have speakers on that PC, then a user comment will make a loud noise when it pops up.

That's what I thought but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks.

You could always enable 'remote viewing' (I think that is what it is called) so you can have a little pop-up window on the machine you are working on that is showing the screen of the machine you aren't working on.

You could also place a can of marbles at the edge of the CMM. At the end of the program have the probe head move into the can and spill the marbles.

Or maybe not. I'll go now.

      Very creative!

I was thinking of placing a radio on the CMM table and program the CMM to come over and hit the ON button.

Has anyone tried the notification center from the universal updater?

It says you can use the LEDs in the EVO or a LED light stack. We don't have the EVO so we would have to use the light stack. Any idea on where to start with this? What one to get, where to get it, how to hook it up, ECT...

If your CMM doesn't have lights, it doesn't work. Since he has no speakers, it won't work. I use notification center for a intermittent issue with motion errors (that Hexagon can't seem to figure out) with my Optiv.

I haven't used it yet. It won't let you send the notifications to a device with speakers?

I'm liking these ideas!!! I'm good at tinkering and I have a 3d printer too. I'll come up with something creative. OH RUBBERBAND GUN TRIGGERED BY THE CMM!!! I was getting ready to hit post when I thought of that.

In all seroiusness though here is my solution (until sheneigans happen). We have a laptop that we can remote into any computer on our network so I had it remote into the big cmm computer and set the laptop on the desk by the other cmm I was working with.

I have been asking for a 3rd monitor for some time now... that's one way to do it.

"3rd monitor"? I have one. And it's been made very clear to me that I should be thankful that I have THAT one.
