I'll update and give it a try. I am usually in command mode because I like to see all the code but there are times when summary mode comes in handy.

Lol. I didn't even know there WAS a summary mode. We're always in Command.

What is the need for Summary? Does it make locating sections of program quicker?

It's a simpler way of seeing what PC-DMIS is doing as well as being less intimidating to newer users.

Any news regarding squashing bugs from the 2019 R1 issues thread?
Haven't heard a single user pushing for a change to the overview mode.

I assume vpt.se is referring to Summary mode

well, at first glance it looks... interesting? the peek window could get annoying quickly, im glad theres a button at the top of the edit window to turn it on/off quickly.

first admittedly quick impression is it'll end up like the new icons. hated by the old-timers simply because its different but implemented anyway because, progress.

i do like the radio buttons to quickly mark/unmark features

Not just old timers. I'm still quite new to the system, and we've had (IIRC) 3 updates in that time period. With each one, the appearance of the buttons changed. I just start acclimating myself, and BAM! Stuff is different, and I have to relearn basic functions again. ENOUGH! You don't need to change things just because you can.

can we have a legacy mode of the buttons for the old timers?

Not too bad. I can see a use for it for a quick summary, however I still like to see all the code in front of me.

Yep, I've never used summary, I want full code or full report.

Not sure if it is a new addition or not since I was finally allowed to download and install it yesterday, but there is a button at the top right of the edit window that allows you to turn the peek option on and off.

if you run 2019 r2 without the new summery mode, the old style doesnt have that button at the top. also the ability to expand features (the little plus sign before each feature) has been removed.

I am playing around with the New Summary and the Old Summary in 2019 R2. The expand and collapse function has been removed?

                looks that way. exceedingly annoying

            • #13
I like it. I will probably use it as much as I do now, which is hardly ever because I like seeing the code, but the peek and radio buttons can be useful and may allow me to use it a little more often.

                Don,

The issue without having the expand function is the ability to have control of the Copy and Paste Parameters for individual settings. This is the first day testing 2019 R2. So, far like the new Summary Mode. Summary Mode is a great tool to use to organize the program using the Dragging and Dropping Commands.

From the Help Menu: Home > Available Help Files > PC-DMIS Core Help File > Using the Edit Window > Working in Summary Mode > Editing a Measurement Routine from Summary Mode > Dragging and Dropping Commands

                Dragging and Dropping Commands
While you can cut and paste commands to rearrange them in Summary mode, you can also rearrange commands by simply dragging and dropping one or more contiguous commands to a new location.
To drag and drop a command:
                1. Select one or more contiguous commands in the Edit window.
                2. Use the left mouse button, and drag the selected commands to a new location in the Edit window.
                3. Release the mouse button to move the selected command below the command that was under the mouse pointer when you released the mouse button.

Another missing ability is to use the up and down keyboard arrow keys to navigate in Summary Mode (Preview).
