  • PC-DMIS crash 2013 MR1

    Hi All,
I don't know what has happened but my version of PC-DMIS has suddenly started crashing every time I try to open a program.

Initially it opens up ok but the minute I go file>open it crashes and closes.

I have checked the file paths and they are all ok and unchanged.

The only thing that has happened recently is a newer version of MS Access has been installed on the computer could this be causing it?

I've read some other threads but I can't seem to find a solution that works for my CMM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could try to rollback the OS to a restore point just before that last update, at least to see if that is the cause of the issue.

It wasn't an update- Someone came in and installed the program on my computer to get access to a database we use. I'm going to see if I can uninstall it and see what happens. It's the only thing that has changed with my computer and PC-DMIS was working fine earlier this week as I was using it.

Are you opening the program via menu File -> Open (open dialog is shown) -> Select program -> Open
...or are you clicking the program name in the MRU list (the list of recently opened programs)?

If you are clicking on a program in the MRU list that has been deleted or moved, I believe some of the earlier versions of PC-DMIS will crash.

I think the MS Access installation meddles with the file open dialog in Windows, and that old PC-DMIS version includes a dll that name clashes with the Office additions.

Try locating MSI.DLL in the PC-DMIS folder, and rename it to HexMSI.DLL (which it is already called in later versions of PC-DMIS).

Thanks for the responses it was access, I couldn't find the DLL file so I've uninstalled it for the time being until I find the MSI.DLL file to rename it.

This fix should solve the problem. Since our link utility seems terribly non-functional click where it says "click here".

I have now done this and I can now start a new program no problem, however, I've just tried to import a model and it doesn't matter whether I try Catia, Step or Iges it crashes immediately. It won't even let me select a model.

Does anyone have any answers for this one?

Try logging into Windows as a different user and loading a cad model. If it works then I'll help you reset the affected user profile in PC-DMIS.

sorry I haven't replied in awhile guys. Apparently uninstalling MS access was necessary- Once I did this it started working again!
