  • Variable results in report

    I want to print the value of a variable in my report. A previous post had this:

    THK =COMMENT/INPUT, Enter thickness
    ASSIGN/V1 = THK.INPUT
    COMMENT/REPT,"Material Thickness: "+ V1

    However, I can't seem to get it to work for me. What am I missing here?

    Under edit menu preferences edit window layout do you have under report the show comments checked

      I think it's missing a space and a plus sign at the end.

        You could always do it by making a generic feature and dimensioning that.

          It is showing in the report, but it shows + MATL_THK instead of the value entered.

          I tried the space and + sign, didn't work.

          Generic feature method works, but it is sort of 'a long way around' to get there.

          I've used the variable method successfully ONCE before, but I don't remember which program (of hundreds) it is in.

            Try V1.input

              Here's one of mine.

              " " + V5 + " " + V6 + ""

              mine needed the V6 + "" to make it work.

                I think you need to take the space out from + v1 to +v1

                  I found the program that worked with the variable method. In my posted question example I mistakenly had the space before the + sign instead of after it.

                  FYI-

                  THK =COMMENT/INPUT, Enter thickness
                  ASSIGN/V1 = THK.INPUT
                  COMMENT/REPT,"Material Thickness: "+ V1

                  With 2.53 input it looks like this on the report:

                  Material thickness: 2.53

                  IMO this is easier than creating and dimensioning a Generic feature.
                  But, if you want this input to be recorded into Datapage the Generic feature method is necessary.

                    Ahhhh James, YOU DA MAN!

                    Even simpler using just the COMMENT/INPUT, eliminated the variable. Less is best.

                      UNLESS you want to run SPC on it (or save it to any databse package). I think that will only put it in the report, since it is JUST a comment.

                        Pick, pick, pick.
                        No, Mat is right, if you want SPC then this will not be the right path.

                          I use "Keyin" dimension. Change your actual to the variable name and it MUST contain a letter in the name or the actual will revert back to a numeric value. Your code will look like this and your print out will show the results (see attachment). No need to create a generic feature.

                          ASSIGN/60E

                            In pcdmis 4.3 only press enter to jump to a new line and type the name of the variable and that's it
                            it works for me no signs and simbols just the name
