Is there a reason why PDCMIS has not worked with a specific Computer Graphics Card Vendor to "qualify a specific Graphics Card and its Driver updates" - some of the other CAD software companies do this; why hasn't it been done for PCDMIS - for any of its 'current release' of the software? - anyone have a clue?

Ultimately I would like to 'maximize the graphics rendering capabilities' of the current systems - we have two online and one offline seat - for what we inspect. It is hard to do this when there are no 'specifics' provided as to which graphics card works well / better than another - again other 'software CAD rendering' companies have done this - sure they spent their time and their resources to try to give the end users as much specific information about 'what is the most compatable' graphics card that can display "ANY / ALL" - of the CAD files imported into their program; regardless of file size or complexity of what the end user is doing with the CAD files.

Appreciate any and all feed back on this one!

    Thanks!

Thats a good idea. Rangerboat has had this very problem with all of his BIG cad models. We have tried numerous cards which have not achived a fast down load or cannot down load at all. We were told this would be fixed in 4.2. But to have a MASTER card that everybody knows will work for that version would help tremedously.

I do know that WILCOX has jumped into bed with NVidia. NVidia will support the PC-DMIS platform soon if not already in 4.0+. I have an NVidia Quadro FX4000 video card and have no trouble moving my CAD stuff around. I utilize CAD models up to 80 meg or more.

          "3Dlabs Wildcat Realizm 500", here.

I'd say I get the typical performance most people get with PCDMIS.

Im sure if Wilcox is actually still working with NVidia that performance and GPU support will likely increase across the board sooner or later. Dont hold your breath though.

Unfortunately, that's what I've been struggling with for the past two working days. The video card that I am using is a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS and I'm trying to import (using the B&S Catia translator) an 800MB cad file. It imports fine, but when I try to change it to a solid, 99% of the components of the cad file disappear... I've tried explaining to the ******** that the gaming cards do not work well with cad but he's still not willing to try another card ...

Well, our IT 'professional' just ordered me a new CAD system because of the poor performance I am getting with my current 'Intel Integrated Graphics' on the mobo of the computer.

I work with the SW DCI and it chugs my system pretty hard. It seems to work a little better with imported IGES files than the DCI SW files, but not much better.

I specifically requested the nVidia Quadro with whatever amount of video ram the company was willing to pay for. I know from previous experience that this card works pretty well, at least better than other cards I've tried. So what does she order? An ATI x600 gaming card!!! There is nothing I can do about this now so I hope this card works well. However, I don't really expect it to be to great if PC-DMIS is working more with nVidia.

              I'll keep ya posted...

ATI Cards are DEATH for Pcdmis, at least, for the most part. You can expect many new issues if you install that card. The GeForce FX 5500 does not do too bad a job (that's the one I have in the Pcdmis PC). Of course, the GeForce 7950 GX2 would be better (that's the card in my laser scanning PC).

                    Hey Mr Ranger !

Thats insane....I don't know if you will EVER get a vid card capable to render an 800 meg file in Pc-dmis. As far as I remember, there was a general rule to have to have 10 meg of ram for every 1 meg of cad file size....so, you need a couple terabytes of ram first.....

I am just saying not to just blame the video card. I have opened and translated in Pc-dmis, a 250 meg file and rendered it. I did turn my Tessalation value down to 3, but it spun like a top after that. Nvidia 512 card, don't remember the model, but I also had 2 gig ram....just a thought.

Is this the PCI FX 5500 you are using?

Nope, it is AGP, not PCI, as far as I know.

Just removed the cover of my computer and did some snoopin' around. I don't even have a video carrd it on. Just what's piggybacked onto the motherboard. Other desireable features include a Celeron 2.7GHz processor and 256mb of RAM!
