number of points in calibration

I have worked in the CMM world for about 10 years and have gotten various answers about the number of points required to calibrate tools.
I use a PH10 articulating head and am currently programming a B&S Global.
I currently use 9 points to calibrate my touch probes.
Is there any documentation as to the proper number of points for calibration ?

Been there, done that, I think this makes about the 10th time I have seen this conversation over the yers.
