CAD with studs/ problem!!

I've got a part that has four studs in it. When I try to measure a stud I pick on the CAD data and it tells me that the math has failed for plane and gives me the options to shut down or hit o.k. Why does this pop up? Is there a glitch in the IGES file or PCdmis? Has anyone seen this before? Should I try deleting the CAD representation of the stud and just measure the hole?

Does the stud lie in the workplane? is it a cylinder or a threaded stud or something similar? PCDMIS often offers the shut down option, not too sure under which circumstances I would use it, is that the quit while you're ahead option
