  • Offline programming via laptop..

My boss wants to get a laptop so I can start offline programming. Does anyone know what the rule of thumb is for how much speed we need besides the bigger the better? Models will be like 78 meg.. Any ideas?
    Currently 3.7MR2 ..

    Thanks for any help!

I purchased the Low-end ($500) DELL Laptop and I use it for offline Programming. Not sure of the specs but for $500 brand new you can imagine its very basic. It works fine......but You'll have to get use to spinning the CAD model with the thumbpad which is very awkward. If they sell laptops with thumbwheels like your mouse has, get that one.

                  Underspec,
same here, 2 months ago I asked for offline seat to help keep up on programming, I got my rear end chewed for asking. They said it is too much money, I disagree! we have so much down time on our DCC machine because of CAD programming. the excuse they gave me was they do not see our Cmm being used enough now ,they are not buying more software until we use what we have. If only they really knew what the situations is. My quality manager is not bright enough to present this in the correct manor so I have to suffer.

Go Figure. In 2002 when the company I work for bought our CMM they sent two of us for the training. Me from Quality and another person from Engineering. He was to be the off line programmer. Seat paid for. Well, I went on the machine full time at that time. The other person,(off line programmer), has yet to give me one program made off line.

I had a laptop once but I lost it when I stood up. Thats as close as I can get to a real one.
