DCT Costs/Issues

The DCI requires a 'seat' of that software to be available for use by the PC running Pcdmis, the DCT does not, it translates, it does not 'interface'.

DCT does NOT come with Pcdmis, it is an extra cost item.

DCI = Direct Cad Interface
DCT = Direct Cad Translator

Only the 'common' basics come with Pcdmis, IGES, DES, STEP, etc. Anything that is in a software's native format is an extra cost item.

I'm assuming you are referring to DCI, not DCT.
DCI costs about 2K, I believe DCT comes with PC D-MIS
we justified buying Catia V5 DCI because it is NOT a translator.
It is an interface that actually opens Catia in the back ground.
If we translate data, the translation must be verified.
Since we now use the interface, we no longer have to verify translated data (it's not translated).
We started having problems with DCI when Catia V5 R16 was released.
Supposedly PC D-MIS V4.0 and V3.7 MR3 work with Catia V5 R16
We are now converting Catia V5 R16 to Catia V5 R15 to use DCI with PC D-MIS V3.7 MR2.
The only problems other than the version problems are that sometimes the model in Catia looks different than the same model in PC D-MIS,
I think this is more a function of how the model was made.
Also, when you mirror a program, the DCI drops the model, because the model is as shown.
For a graphical reference only - I mirror the Catia model in Catia and bring it into the opposite program.

Hey Phil !

How's things going over there?

We have cad translators for Catia V4 & 5 and a Unigraphics translator. We haven't had any issues with them in the past two years... THey have been a blessing because I no longer have to wait for a designer to convert the files over. We only but 1 set of the dct's for our manual machine that doesn't get used very often. I believe the cost was about 2k a piece (not for certain)???

Does anyone know the cost for a direct cad translator - and has anyone noticed any issues or problems with them?
