We normally use the laser for reverse engineering but for simple jobs PC Dmis works fine. As Schrock said you can export most things apart from curves I believe. If you need curves take the scans out as points then create curves in a dedicated CAD package. I normally use ProE for standard stuff or Imageware for non-geometric features such as blade aerofoils.
You can create points or curves. Most design/engineers seem to prefer the points though. Just ask who you are giving them to what they want. Go to File/Export/iges, name the iges file what you want and put it where you want, select the alignment you want used in the iges file, I always check the box "Marked features only, that way it won't iges the manual alignment points. Select setup, and pick what you want your iges to be in. Play with it and see what looks best. Good Luck!!
