  • Install 3.7 mr2 or 4.1?

My company has been running 3.7-Release and just now got the mr2 and the 4.1 versions. What would be the better of the two to utilize? I have heard a lot of complaints about 4.1 from the instructor's at Brown and Sharpe, but would like to get your input. Also, after it is installed, what needs to be done to get it to work with my existing probe files and probe rack? I tried to run my calibration program with mr2, but it doesn't recognize my probes or the rack.

IMHO, If you do a lot of true position work I prefer 3.7 Versions 4.0 and 4.1 still seems a little buggy with regard to TP. Also, some people including myself have problems with V4.1 printing the report to printer or pdf after each run. The other questions I can't help with but it will be interesting to see the other responses from the guru's here.

Install 3.7mr3 not mr2. I would wait on 4.1 if you are happy with what you are doing now. The mr3 version is probably the best version they have produced since 3.2063 or 3.25.

As far as I am concerend, there are only 2 reasons to upgrade away from pre-4.0:

        1. If you need the new XactMeasure GD&T. That is a huge improvement plus added functionality.
        2. If you like the new reporting functionality, which does not work very well yet, even in V4.1 betas.

Although I never used PC-DMIS before V4.0, it seems that the buzz is that mr3 is pretty much the most stable version. If you can, just wait it out a little longer. Let us, who really need that functionality, debug it for you. We enjoy doing that...
