    Are you in OFFLINE by any chance? You don't have 2 programs open, do you?

              Whenever mine starts doing something fishy I do a complete shutdown and a re-home/re-start and it usually takes care of it.

                Exactly why most troubleshooting starts with checking the power cord.

                  Check your settings.Go to edit/prefernces/setup/general - and make sure
                  "move feature to reference plane" is not checked. I had some wise *** check this box and all my hits had a "zero" amount in "z" axis.
