  • Jogbox problems

    Good afternoon all

It seems that our jogbox is drifting when you moving it by hand going in x y axis it starts to move in z by itself and when you move in the z axis when you let go it continues in the z axis. We have someone here that is trying to fix it setting the tension screw under the cap but no luck so far.

    Any idea would be helpful.

    Thanks

Did this become a problem suddenly or has it gradually gotten worse over time. If the former I would suspect the spring in the jogbox knob has broken. If the later it could be an airleak or you need to adjust the z-ballance (depending upon the type of machine you have.). I think first I would check my air pressure at the point it enters the machine. Also none of the above necessarily applies if your box was dropped. HTH

Surpriseingly we had a crew in to clean the floors last weekend we think it may have done a face plant, just no way to prove it. It was working fine Saturday as of 1 pm when I came in Sunday it was having problem. first off something was unplugged and we got no power to the ph10 head to box with the lights when you take hit(i do not know there name were dead I trace the plug and it was looose my co worker pushed it in and it was fine untill we tried to move it in the z we did a restart of the machine and still drifting which leads us to believe it was dropped or knocked off by the cleaning crew.

Well, I've never had that problem in the z-axis. I have it happen in y all the time. The fix as suggested by someone on this forum is to hold down the enable button and if it is drifting give it a good rap on the table. It stops drifting then. When the tech was in for another problem he told me it is possible to buy just a joystick rather than the whole jogbox. I think he said it was about $500.

Bang it once or twice on the granite when that happens until you get the new one in. Works like a charm (I'm not kidding).

I just replaced one of ours. Someone, accidentally, broke it completely in two pieces... One of the operators had been complaining that is wasn't working right or something then we come in Thursday morning and it is smashed apart and laying on the CMM like nothing happened until you picked it up and it fell apart in my hands....

not a word from anybody about it being dropped either.

Just tap it a little with a rubber mallet (we call it a "GD&T Persuader" in our plant)...

You can order the joy sticks from c & h products for about 125.00,just bought 2 of them. They make them for b & s.Also if you take the end cap off the joy stick there is a shaft with a screw driver slot in the end. This a reostat adjustment for your z axis.Adjust this either one way or the other to balance your joy stick for z.

Since you may have to replace it...

Take the 4 screws off from the bottom 1/2 of box -
look at wiring that controls Z movement, could be just a little soldering.

the gage inspector adjusted the reostat but it would either go up or down not stay put I will let them know about c & h products.

                            Thanks All

Sounds like the return spring is broken in the joystick. it is only a couple of dollars but B&S has a minimum purchase order price of ?? It was $25 when I had to buy one so I bought 5 or six of them, that was years ago and I havn't broken one since.. Knock on wood. I made one out of spring wire that lasted a while until the ones I ordered got here.
