  • Creating a point at an intersection

Hi All, I'm back on my CMM after about a year off from programming and I could use a little help. I have a small part that has a seal bead protruding up from the Z plane. It is .080 at the base and is .055 high with 30 degrees per side. How can I create a point at the intesection at the z plane on each side to determine the width at it's base? I tried 2 points on the z plane heading towards the angle and 2 points on the angle heading down towards the z plane but it creates the line horizontal to the z plane.?????
    I am using tip 0.5x21MM. (3.5MR2)
    Thanks

First, measure the z-plane as a plane. Then, depending on how your part is oriented change your workplane to x or y. Then, measure your line on the angle. It should create an angled line. Then, you will need to create a point where the line intersects the plane.

    OR,
If your seal bead is round you could measure the angled face as a cone and then create a circle where the cone intersects the plane.

    OR,
If your seal bead is not round you could measure the angled face as a plane and create a line where the two planes intersect.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a shot and let you know.

Try creating a 3D line from the points on the angle. That has worked for me in some cases.
