  • line between 2 points

It sounds like such a simple thing. Create a line between 2 intersection points. I have done this hunderds of times using vector points but for some reason PC-DMIS will not create a line between 2 points that were constructed as intersection points between 2 circles. See attached screen shot. Any ideas as to what would cause this. I have tried in V4.0 and 4.1. I have tried casting a new point on top of the intersection points and it still fails. ARGGGH.

Did you try creating a 3D line?

          Maybe 3D line will work.

Also tried in in V3.5MR2 - same type of message for 3D or 2D line.

So, you tried creating a cast point on top of each of the other two points? And, you tried creating a 3D line from those two cast points?

              That should work.

If not, I would suggest shutting down - PC-DMIS and computer - restarting and see if that helps. That is all I've got.

Maybe try creating a line between two other points. Will it let you do that?

Look at the theoretical XYZ values for the constructed points. Both points are at 0,0,0. That's why the line won't construct because theoretically, it is the same point. Use CONSTRUCT CIRCLE instead of GENERIC and try the CAST option to create each circle to the points. You can adjust the diameters in the code afterwards.

Stuart, thank you. I didn't notice that. The points looked good in the graphic display. If I try to const a cast circle from the vector point PC-DMIS creates the circle in a plane that is normal to the vector that the vector point was taken at and it won't let me change it. The circles have to be in an x,y plane. Any ideas?

                      success

Stuart - I was able to get it to work using your method. Thanks much !!! Attached screen shot shows the final code to complete the thread.
