  • Auto-Cal

My problem for the day is that my probe qualification works fine with the exception that the z-clearance is not enough for the probe tip to fully clear the surface plate for a wrist rotation to the 0,0,1 vector and the probe crashes into the surface plate. The same tip calibration works fine from the probe cal screen within the program but when the set is entered into Auto-Cal format the crashes start to happen when the qualification calls for the probe head to change probe stations at the probe change tool.

I hope I have ex[plained it clearly and that someone has experienced this problem so that they may tell me what settings I need to change.

    Thanks,
    Ron

Bring up the probe utilities window ( F9 a load probe command), click settings radio button to bring up Probe Setup window. There are 2 Clearance distance statements with input fields . Adjust them accordingly. The second one is probably set to zero and I blieve that may be your problem.

I think this has been discussed before. I can see it happening but have never had it happen. The reason I've never had it happen is that I set my cal. sphere up on a 4" riser. The riser is heavy enough to keep the sphere from moving so I don't have to constantly clamp it to the table. It also allows me to run cal's without tearing down part setups.

I have seen it happen, what I have done is set a user defined calibration order so it will go from
              A90 to
              A45
so it wont go straight from A90 to A0

Thanks, Sean. That is exactly where I looked and the second clearance setting which references the Z- axis was at zero. My colleague is going to make the appropriate adjustment to see if that solves his problem.

When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

I believe an oxymoron is a conflict of words, a hypocritical statement is not necessarily an oxymoron.

Or should I not question your expertise of all things moronic?
