  • Cheap manual CMM software

Good afternoon reprobates. Our manual CMM is currently using the old mitutoyo dos based GEOPAK. When our PC dies so does the CMM - Mitutoyo (unsurprisingly) no longer support this software. I was wondering if anybody knew of some cheap and easy to use software for our manual CMM (Bearing in mind that a few Non CMM people will be using it).

    TIA (as always)

I'm not sure if there is a such thing as cheap cmm software. Someone else might know of some. You might want to look at trading your cmm for another pre owned cmm with software you are familiar with. Just a thought.

I don't know anything about those single touch interfaces but you might want to explore that.

        I'll field this one.

Try a software called CMM-MANAGER it does most of what DMIS does for quite a bit less money. I am learning this stuff right now. Not too bad. I have heard that for manual cmm the price is somewhere around 3,000 - 5,000. Anyone know anything more about this software?
Call them, they will probably send you a demo license to try it out?

We are also in the same boat as you. When the PC dies, so does the sofware. We (luckily) have PC-DMIS installed on it also. So if it does go, the only thing we loose is the old Geopak programs. ( And an ancient PC that sounds like a 747 when you boot it up)

          Good luck with your search.

Cheers all. I think the single touch interface is what Im looking for (I remember seeing our rivals have one years ago). Can anybody point me in the right direction (I will google in the interim)?

Single Touch Interface was part of Sheffield's MeasureMax software. It is now only a frontend for PCDMIS. You need PCDMIS to use STI.

PC-DMIS has that capability as of 4.1. Call your sales rep

Aaah, I've jsut checked that out. I was thinking of something completely different. The CMM that our competitor owned had a touch screen interface, very similar to what the modern projector/shadowgraphs had. It was very much for the layman. The idea is to get something that is so simple to use, our machinists etc wont bother me to measure their simple stuff all of the time

That's what I'm talking about (sorry about the STI mix-up). B&S offers that on some entry level manuals but I do not know what it is called. I bet their web site has info on it.

Have you considered something like the B&S reflex system?

I've just looked at the reflex software and it looks perfect.

I shall start a new thread asking for reviews etc...

                        Thanks.
