  • ERROR: Driving tip into table. Why?

I opened up a program that I've not run in a while, attempted to calibrate the probe and got an error message:

    Machine Errors:
    Driving tip into table

    Machine Commands:
    Move ph9 to A=0 B=0

Any idea why? Other programs seem to allow me to calibrate just fine.

    rebuild the probe.
I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

Do you use the probe file in other programs or is it dedicated to just this one. If it is used for this 1 program only i would delete the probe file from your PCDMIS directory and create a new one.

Funny I have never gotten error before driving the tip into the table, it just goes right ahead and drives it in. Must be new with 4.0, neat error really. I bet the guys at B&S were torn between "Error about to drive tip into table" and "Go tell your boss you just broke some expensive shitt while I drive this probe into the granite". I love it, so when you click OK does it go ahead and smash the tip for you?

Now that is funny Craig. I have seen this and I just rebuild and redo all my manual alignments. This seems to work for me.

I've sriously never gotten that one. It seemed really funny like an error that says "You are about to something really dumb, do you want to procede? Click OK to break stuff".

I'm not picking on anyone I just had no idea any such error existed.

I have never seen that one either, but I would suggest B&S hire you to write their error messages in the future. I mean it is easy to see red when reading "PCDLRN has generated errors and will shut down now", but how mad could you be if you were doubled up laughing because it read, "pc-dmis is shutting down now because if we made a bug free version you would not renew your SMA in hopes of getting a bug free version! SVCKER!" ? ? ?

I say bring back Doc Watson, he was the NT guru. One cool cat. He had a very intimate relationship with PCDMIS. Perhaps we could have an animated Doctor Watson in a boiling kettle tell you in an English acent that "you're really in for it now mate. Hope you save often, bye now".

If you are using the collision avoidance stuff alomg witha virtual table I think that is where this comes into play.

By the way, good one Craiger!!!

                      Haha! some funny replies there

Anyway... I attempt to rebuild the probe, but the pulldown menu doesn't list any probe parts. I have access to probe parts in other programs. How do I gain access to the probe parts?

Try creating a brand new file to replace the old one. You should be able to build a NEW file.

That sounds even stranger. You may have a corrupted probe file, but if that were the case I would think you could not access them with any program. As first step I would revert to "known to be good" backup copy of the program. Hopefully you have one and problem is just with the copy you are currently trying to use. If that fails I would delete the "loadprobe" command in the program and insert a new one. Maybe someone else has seen this before and can offer more insight as I am just taking shotgun blasts hoping to hit something that works for you.

                            table crash

                            yes,
you have a collision gard on. I went through this last month. I can't rember where it is, but find it and turn it off. Your program will run just fine.

I finally managed to rebuild the probe:
                              PROBEPH10T
                              Connect: PROBE_TP20
                              Tip#1:TIP1BY10MM

I still get an error Driving tip into table
                              Move Ph9 to A=0 B=0.

                              I don't even have a Ph9
