  • scan prehit?

    The first point on my scan is somehow of. My alignment is good because when I take a point in that same area, everything works. When the probe comes from the Z+ clearplane (see picture), it hits the top surface... like there is no prehit. When I run the scan without the clearplane, the first point just doesn't register and it gives me the "movement interrupted" error. I tried different scans and it does the same thing

    any help is appreciated

    Doesn't your tolerance on your FINDNOMS need to be at least 1/2 your probe Ø ? Increase this to 1/2 + and try again.

          Several issues here:

          - All the stuff that has already been mentioned
          - Looks to me like your first scan point has a flipped surface vector
          - CAD comp should be on since you have a CAD model. Without it you won't get 3D probe comp. from the CAD model vector.

              Ok, yeah, I see it now. THANK YOU everyone for the input

              I fixed the avoidance move, so now the program actually starts measuring the part, but it isn't correct. It starts by hitting the first point, and than the probe moves away from the part and it follows the profile about an inch away from the part, and I know that it has to do with the first 2 or sometimes 3 points having a negative vector. But when I try to change it manually, it cancels the entire scan

                  Ok, so this is what I did

                  It looks like the first couple of points were correct, but the rest of them were bad. So I "Flip All" and than Flipped the first 4 back, it seems to work fine. But I still have to figure out why it does that in the first place,

                    I seem to have this problem on most scans of thin walled parts.

                    I end up having to manually flip.

                      EDIT , CAD VECTORS . Select the surface on the model you are going to scan. Make sure the vector of the surface is correct. The "arrow" will be pointing AWAY from material , not "in" material.

                          Instead of fliping Vector individually, you should go to Edit-->Graphic Display Window--> CAD Vector-->(click somewhere outside the CAD where you can select the whole CAD)--> then click on "Fix Surface Vectors" on the popup box. This should fix any vector issue you have.

                            Even if the CAD vector is correct you will still Ocassionally get flipped vectors at beginning or end. Usually I find that if I have all of the vector settings perfect in the "initial vectors" area there are no issues. If one of those settings is a bit weird then I will get weird behavior when generating (partial path, flipped vectors, etc.)

                            For thin walled parts you probably want to use "Only selected" to make sure it isn't grabbing the wrong CAD surface.

                            Sometimes you just need to flip them around manually. It doesn't happen very often for me but I have had occasions where it was the only way to get it right. When I have to do stuff like this I always put in a comment in the code to remind myself , and future programmers, that they need to do this if they regenerate the scan.
