  • New Probe Build Question

Good day to all. I have an open question for anyone who can answer how I build a probe file using a custom built probe that is not on the drop down list in the Probe Wizard. My situation is that I am having a stylus made that has a longer stem than the standard available. Standard length is .5mm x 20mm. My stylus will be .5mm x 30mm. All the rest of the procedure I am quite able to complete, just not adding that length to the build. I am operating CAD++ 2013 MR1. Thanks in advance.

    Easiest way... FAKE IT.

Use a 10mm ext. and the .5x20 probe.

Sorry Matthew, that won't do it. I don't need the extension, I need the stem length so that the probe will not shank out on the part. It's tiny and deep and I need the stem length along with the small ball diameter. Nice try though, wish it were that simple.

He's saying to "build" the probe file that way in pcdmis.

the machine doesnt know, or care, if your actual probe is .5mm x 30mm and you " build" the probe file as .5mmx20mm + 10mm extension

Duh, that makes more sense. Thanks BIGWIG 7 for that clarification. I do believe it will.

Good luck getting that stylus to calibrate correctly!
Hope you have a light force module.

Also use DCC+DCC for qualification, and possibly bring start angle up to 5° in qual settings

You can open your Probe.dat file in the PC-DMIS root and paste the below in the M2 stylus area lets say right below the "ITEM:TIP0.5BY20MM M2"

PC-DMIS will not see it until a software restart

Just so the build is actual and he doesn't have to say there is a 10mm extension there that isn't. Some people are anal about that thing.
