  • Another request for future release

the ability to do math when entering in a location...example...when part "zero" is the left end, and a couple of features( say holes) come off of the right end...enter in the total length value minus the feature shift from the right end and then whahla! you have your location

If I understand your request, you can do that using variables.
When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

I suspect he's thinking about the functionality seen in something like Solidworks where you enter an equation into a dialog box.

      Sounds good to me.

I don't think that is just a Solidworks function. If I am not mistaken it is a function of every piece of software on the market except PCDMIS and Tommy the Train's fun with colors and shapes.

Well, I might as well add in MY big request (AGAIN!)

In the DCC FEATURES window, BRING BACK the tabs instead of the drop-down list, in addition to this, make the DCC FEATURES window CUSTOMIZABLE by using, in the F5 setup, a list of the DCC Features you, the operator, want shown in the window. This way, even if you have CAD++ and have all 16 DCC Features available (that's the count in V3.7MR3), you can have in ONLY show, EDGE, VECTOR, CIRCLE, ROUND SLOT if that is all you will be using. This pull-down/drop-down is garbage, give us back the single-click to a feature type.

ALSO, and this is VERY IMPORTANT (**** important, if you ask me!)

REMOVE THE 'USE LAST PROGRAM VALUES' in the DCC Features window. Just because the last program I ran had 2.05mm of stock thickness does NOT MEAN that the new one does to. In a NEW PROGRAM, the DCC Features window SHOULD COME UP AS DEFAULT (the first time it is opened) to a VECTOR POINT at XYZ zero with a 0,0,1 vector, NO STOCK THICKNESS, the target vector matching, etc. YEAH, it is a GREAT idea that whatever you used last IN THAT PROGRAM should come up the next time you open DCC Features, BUT ONLY IN THAT PROGRAM, NOT IN ALL the programs you open up. The way it is set-up now, whatever you did/used/programmed last, no MATTER WHAT, is what Pcdmis starts out at in a new program. ALL the info/data/settings in the DCC Features window should ONLY CARRY THROUGH for the program they were set/used/made in, NOT ALL OF THEM!

I know it has happened to others besides me, but HOW MANY of you have started a new program, got about an hour into it, and discovered that, CRAP, the stock thickness is STILL set to the other part? Sure, most of you new guys probably have not had this happen, but us long-time users, who got used to the 'better' older versions are USED TO the DCC features window opening up for the first time in a program being at 0,0,0 - 0,0,1 - 0, etc.

I would agree that the auto-features dialog box will not accept an equation. But, just an aside, after the code is in th edit window a formula can be input into the auto-feature.

but if you can do the "math" when "programing" you won't have to go back and "edit"

I ran into that yesterday. It would definately save a few keystrokes on the calculator if we could just enter an equation.

Not that I'll ever get an upgraded version.......

to put an equation into the window saves time from going out of pcdemis into a calculator and then back into the demon.
The 'LAST PROGRAM VALUES' has gotten me more than a hand full of times. It sucks big time.
