We have 4.1 installed on my off-line PC and our new machine, our old machine has only 3.5mr2 which is also on my off-line PC. We then have a network drive that contains all of our programs. The original programs for 3.5 are kept in a master folder that has permissions for users checked for “allow”, “read & execute”, and “read”. As an administrator I have all permissions to this folder. The 4.1 master folder has exactly the same permissions to it.
Here is the issue that is occurring, I can open pcdmis 4.1 on the new machine, open a program from this folder. No problems. I will have a user open pcdmis ( under his Novell login password ) and try to open the same program in the same folder. He gets a fatal error and exits him from pcdmis. I will have him open pcdmis again and have him open a program from any of our other folders that have all permissions available to him and they open up fine.
My question is why?, 3.5 works fine using these same permissions. What do I need to ask of our IS department to change so that my operators can open these master programs and run them but with out the permissions to write over any of them in this folder using pcdmis 4.1?
