Vector vs. Surface Point

I understand that a vector point has a vector associated with it and a surface point does not, but when would you use one rather than the other?

Can someone give me specific examples where each would be better than the other?

I use surface points with vision and vector points with the probe.

With "Surface points" you can use sample hits...other than that they're exactly the same.

When to use surface points? Like when you don't have the correct nominals or vectors, the 3 sample hits will
calculate these for you.
