  • calibrating a semi-spherical probe (Renishaw A-5000-3614)

    Hello All,

I would like to starting using a ceramic semi-spherical probe SEMI-SPHERICAL.jpgto write some programs. It will mainly be used to measure ODs and IDs without having to keep changing probe tips like what you have to do when using a star probe. When trying to build the probe under the probe utilities window, I don’t see any description listed that would come close to describing the probe. Got any ideas? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Here is where I am currently at with building the probe setup in the probe utilities window:

    TESA -M
    Joint:b angle
    Joint:a angle
    Connect:TESA_TMA_300
    Connect:TesastarMP_Body
    Connect:TesastarMP_module_EF
    Empty Connection #1

    Thanks in advance....

I'm in the middle of doing something similar, here's what I have so far...

Edit-->Preferences-->Custom Probe Builder Utility (available since at least 2012, if you don't have it available, you can create it in notepad by editing the .DAT file)

Working top down, create something similar to your probe and save it. Then edit the .DAT file manually to fine tune it.

Thanks Eric, but I was able to successfully calibrate it. There is actually a definition of the probe in the probe description under “TIP18MMSPHERE”. I must have read over the list four times before it jumped out at me. The only thing is that the ceramic semi-sphere ball is colored red. I am using PC-DMIS 2013 MR1.
