  • Shefield SMP400 controller

I have got a strange one this is not my machine so I know only a little about it
one of my 3rd party inspection companies has a major problem

they have a Shefield manus ( they call it )
Pc-Dmis 3.5mr2 installed on it but never ran as of yet
they fire it up it homes out fine all axis move the correct way all is good so far
Until they go to calabrate tips

Runs thru the tip cal good until it goes to do the clearence move away
it then crashes into the sphere and the machine axis has been flipped around

checked the probe head orientation that is correct all axis are correct
just seems to flip out after calibration of the first tip

I thought if anybody could help it would be the expanded Knowladge of this board

Check the SETUP in the PROBE UTILITIES, you need to look at 2 things:

    1) Clearance distance along the qual. tool shank vector
    and
    2) Clearance in Z when qual. tool shank is perp. to the Z axis.

Make sure these have a POSITIVE value, I have 65 and 127 for mine.

I've used Sheffield Cordax 1808M last job runs MeasureMax - If I remember right machine axes are not same as conventional... when facing machine lenghtwise; left to right is "Y" and front to back is "X". Check settings if matches.
