I'm in the process of upgrading from 3.5mr2 to 3.7 mr3 and the instructions say to copy the above listed files from old pcdmis folder into the new one. I've scoured my old folder and cannot find these files.

Any ideas on where they might be or if they're needed??? The instructions say they are but????

TIA...have a good weekend as well.

    Files

Mine are located in the main pc-dmis directory and yes they are needed.

Is there any chance they could be in a different location? What other files may be found under the heading "INTERFACE SPECIFIC MACHINE FILES" as the instructions tell you to copy ALL of these files into the new directory for 3.7mr3.

      Man, I hate this stuff....

Having these file might also depend on controller type.

be sure all files can be seen. Go under Tools/Folder Options/then the view tab/ and be sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.

Just make a copy of the old install directory, then install to that.

              Hey Matt,

Where would I find this elusive INSTALL DIRECTORY anyhow? I've looked in my main PCDMIS folder and there are 2 .exe files with "install" in their filename but if you haven't guessed, this cra....uh....stuff isn't really my bag.

              Thanks.

Right click on the shortcut icon, it will tell you what directory Pcdmis was installed into, which SHOULD be the main Pcdmis folder (directory for us DOS-timers). Copy the entire thing, then give it a new name. You are notlooking for an install program, but the folder-directory that Pcdmis was installed into. I have a LOT of different versions installed on my computer and they all have their own directory:

                PCD32063MR3
                PCD3250MR3
                PCD3500
                PCD3500MR1
                PCD3500MR2
                PCD3700MR3

I can run any of these 6 versions. When I get a new version that I will actually install, I copy the latest working version's directory, for example, I copied PCD3500, renamed it PCD3700MR3 (I didn't use 35MR1 or MR2) then installed V3.7MR3 into that directory. This saves ALL the important files that it needs AND it gives me an escape route from a bad version, my previous version is still there for use and it is un-corrupted, I do not have to worry about trying to find some way to get the old version back, it's still right there, waiting for me. ALSO, some of the newer versions DO NOT LIKE using programs from older versions, so I do not migrate programs from one version to another, I run them in their 'native' version.

Thanks a load Matt. That I understand...mostly. I will do exactly that today or tomorrow and post an update.

So, on my hard drive, you're saying that I'll have a folder for 3.5mr2 (my current version) and a copy of that folder renamed 3.7mr3 (version I've downloaded but not installed). When I install 3.7mr3 into the new folder, will it overwrite the 3.5mr2 version in the copied folder or will I have 2 releases in the same folder?

Sorry for all the questions but this way seems to be the best and I just want to understand it completely for future reference!

YES, it will over-write the older version in that folder, BUT you are offered an option (I think you are anyway) of backing up the current version in that folder, and it packs it into a sub-folder (directory) of that Pcdmis install directory (it is called _backup). They say you can go back to the older version, but I do not trust it, that is why I use an entirely new (copied) directory. That way I KNOW for a fact that I can go back. Hard drive space is so cheap anymore that there really is no reason for not covering your rear end in this way.
