  • Cylindricity Question

I am running 3.7 MR2 and am wondering what would be the best way to find the cylindricity of a feature since it is not available in this version. Is there another tool that you use to calculate cylindricity? Thanks in advance. The feature I need to check is approximately 2 inches long. Would concentricity work? The problem is the reference length with concentricity. Thanks

Roundness should give you what you are looking for.

Cylindricity is not only roundness but also straightness.

I was always told that if you asked for roundness, PC-DMIS reports circularity when it is a circle and cylindricity when it is a cylinder. So look at RN for the cylinder, and you ought to be all set.

I am pretty certain that statement is true. I haven't actually cerfied that statement, but I was told the same thing in class about 3 years ago...

You guys are correct. Direct from the help file:

The Dimension | Roundness menu option determines the roundness of a circle, cylindricity of a cylinder, sphericity of a sphere and the conicity of a cone. This dimension type is considered one sided, meaning a single positive value tolerance is applied.
When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

I looked up cylindricity with a now cranially numb engineer, ......

Wanna here it? Here it goes....

Cylindricity includes concentricity, straightness and surface imperfection.

The tool to use that came to mind was an indicator.
