Does this ever happen to you? I select a surface, set the boundaries and when I tell it to generate points, I get the error message "PCDLRN has generated errors and will be closed by Windows". I have had it happen somewhat frequently, but not often enough to find some common factor that is causing it. Of course I lose any work since the last save. I have a simple flat surface with an irregular perimeter. I tried changing start point and direction vectors but I still get the error.

"Save" often. Especially before taking large steps like scans. I have that problems when I delete scans or sections of scans. I had more problems with 3.5 than 3.7. Maybe by the time we hit 6.0 most of the problems and bugs will be gone Save Save Save.......

Sometimes the patch scans can be a pain. The auto crash mode you describe happens to me also. I do the ctr'l-s after EVERY scan I take, just to make sure I don't lose past scans, espically if I'm doing patch scans. Try changing the size and/or shape of your patch. You might just end up having to take a series of linear scans instead of a patch.sigpic:eek: Bring out the comfy chair!

Remember that iges surface boundaries as seen by PCDMIS are calculated from the "Untrimmed edges". I have found most scan errors and dumps from the program result from the cad side. I recommend to take the original iges file back into a cad program and "Untrim" the surface you are trying to scan to see just how big it is... You might want to redraw the surface if possible another way before import.
Note: if you use the "Program mode" and hit the surface to create points... and it does not create any points in U or V then u are dealing with a rather large trimmed surface.

I do not do a lot of patch scans but other than that I use scanning often.
I have found that it works better for me to generate the scans I need and save often. I never convert the scans to points until I am finished with all the scans and I save after converting each scan to points.
There seems to be an issue when trying to generate the points from the scans if you get in a hurry and try to generate points from say scan 8 before scan 7 is complete.

Scanning takes a lot of speed and RAM. Especially patch scans. You may have to upgrade your computer. In the meantime, try reducing the scan density (4 points per mm) and scan speed (5%). I had a lot of problems scanning until I got a faster computer. It is pretty frustrating when it bursts. Save often anyway.sigpicRAH
