  • OFFLINE vs. ONLINE

We have a CMM we used to use PCDMIS on, along with Blade. We now have 8 B&S CMMs, and that one is only used for daily checks using MM4.

So, while we’re waiting (and waiting) for approval to buy our new 9128, we pulled the hasp off the old machine, and installed PCDMIS/Blade on my PC in my office so I could work offline.

But I can’t get into PCDMIS. Blade opens fine. I can’t get past opening up PCDMIS. It keeps looking for a machine connection.

How do I get the software to recognize that I’m offline?

You have to be using V3.5 OR OLDER and you have to have the PC hooked to the controller that the dongle came from. Then, install Pcdmis. Then, change the INTERFAC.DLL filename to anything else, then you will be able to use it 'offline'. This handy little option was 'fixed' with V3.6 and up.

          Hello "nettrainer"

It is my understanding, that you require an "offline" version of the pcdmis program.
You can not run "offline" using an "online" program.

I personally think that this is not an appropriate way of doing business.
Once you have purchased pcdmis, you should be able to program either way.

I don't believe that it is fair to pay double for the software.

          Regards,

The hasp you pulled from the MM4 machine; is the SMA on that current? Double click on "custprog" in the pc-dmis directory and if you have the proper driver, it will give you the hasp's current info, in the drop down window you will find a date. You can only run software that was released prior to that date, unless you pay up the SMA and get B&S to send you a "____.exe" file to reprogram the hasp date. If you won't be using MM4 or that machine any more and your SMA on it is current, maybe they would work a deal with you, trading in the on-line MM4 seat for an offline Pc-Dmis seat. I do not know that they will, but it is a thought. HTH

That would be "too" not "to" Mr. Miller. You wouldn't want me to report you to the chief now would you?

Thanks all for your comments. I have some things to try now.

As to B&S (or whoever) not allowing the software to work offline, that is poor business.

Yeah, if I bought a cheaper OFFLINE package, then tried to run it on a machine . . . I agree there. But buying the "full boat", and not being able to use is as the cheap version . . . ?

              C'mon!
