  • Version 3.8? Windows 2000 ok for newer versions?

My company is looking to buy an used CMM and one company gave me some info on one. The salesman is saying that the CMM is running version 3.8.

I thought that WIlcox came out with 3.8 (briefly) before switching to the 4.x version, but am not sure. I cannot find any reference to version 3.8 on the Wilcox site much less Google. Does 3.8 exist and if so, how is (was) it? Or is it another 3.6, to be talked about only in whisper in dark corners?

Also, the computer that goes along with it runs Windows 2000. If I want to upgrade to a newer version of PC-DMIS (if i can get approval of the SMA), can it run on 2000? What is the latest version of PC-DMIS that can run on 2000? These are questions that will decide on buying the machine or not.

That is exactly what I thought. I wanted to verify this before answering back to the salesman.

Have the salesman send a screen shot identifying what version the CMM is running.

Found this listed on the web:

            Reference Number: 144719
            DEA COORDINATE MEASURING MACHINE
            MODEL: BETA 2405

            6' x 6' x 10' Table
            104" X-Travel
            74" Y-Travel
            40" Z-Travel
            With Renishaw PH-9 Probe
            PC DMIS Version 3.8

Maybe it exists, or maybe it is a typo.

V3.7 runs on W2K just fine, newer versions need XP and newest version will require newer than XP (Vista or 7)
Matt the last part of your post is just not correct. Reread the post where the guy asked about that same question.
