  • dll files

Recently, I was informed by service technician, that some of the dll files located in PCDMIS folder are not up to date. No one used the software since it was unstalled last year, and couple of specific dll files thaat may affect the work of CMM's are listed with date of 10/05/05. Current version 3.7 loaded on PC's does not save global settings for example options like hit - retract distance set globally is not recognized while program runs and with distance set to .05 the stylus is actually backing off to up to .15. Is there a connection between the dll's and the ignoring of command or may this be different problem all together?

The only .dll that I could think of is the interfac.dll file which is the one that controls your machine or is machine specific. I understand that this file is updated sometimes even though the software version and MR is not changed. But I cant say if this file relates to your problems.

You can go to the ftp site and find the latest interface file, but some machine vendors (like Sheffield) only recommend the one that they have tested and dont "certify" the newer ones.

That was the one the tech referred to as well as sheffield.dll (that's what we have). However, even after the files were updated (both sheffield and interfac) the problem did not go away. The probe is still backing off to .15 before taking a hit.

The Sheffield.dll is the same as the interfac.dll

That is how the machine interface dll is handled. Usually you download the file(sheffield.dll in your case) then you rename it to interfac.dll. Make sure you get the latest one that is compatible with your version (for Sheffield it is 3.7 mr2) and approved by sheffield. Sheffield is behind in testing the new ones. So use the newer ones at your own risk, make sure you keep a backup of the original ones.

Explain in more detail what the CMM is doing. Sometimes the words you are using are used interchangable with other meanings so if you could describe the actions of the machine maybe we can figure this out.
