  • Calibration Sphere

There must be a patch for this:

While trying to calibrate probe tips, after you take the first hit on the top and in the center of the Calibration Sphere, the machine takes three hits also on the top off center to further locate the sphere. After that, it moves to the side of the sphere and misses the sphere and will not complete the Calibration. If you repeat your try four or five times, it will eventually locate the sphere correctly and perform the calibration. Thank you in advance,

You don't mention what equipment you are using or what version of the software, or what kind of experience you have.
See the Sticky posts at the top of the thread list for more info about this.
    Now about your problem:
If you have a fairly long extension/probe setup, you can experience the problems you describe if the probehead is out of square with the machine's axes.
Try squaring up the probehead and see if that helps.
    Lately, it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been.

Check the setup of your qual sphere. Is it properly defined? Sphere diameter and vectors?

no patch needed.....better settings in your software is all that is needed.

        1) firstly, when the machine does its DCC-DCC calibration after you touch off the top of the sphere....the CMM will take 4 (FOUR) hits to locate the sphere. 1 on top and 3 more around it. First hit tells the CMM where it is in the Z axis and the next 3 hits tells it were in the X and Y axis.

        2) it misses the sphere how? Does it go past it altogether? Or does it move towards it but never touches the sphere (stops short)? Probably stops short is my guess....so here is what YOU have to do to make it work properly. You need to A) adjust the "PREHIT" distance in your program that you are in....say to .050" , then B) adjust the "CHECK" distance to say .300". "B" is the main item that you are having trouble with, but you don't need to have settings that are so small that if the sphere is slightly off center from where the CMM thinks it is...you have the condition that you presently have.....it won't hit it and then stops.

Your a newbie, we can tell, but that's part of why you came here....to learn. And that's why others like myself watch the forum and pounce on newbies...to teach ya'......so hopefully you just learnt sumthin hear

            Thanks Bob

This was the answer to my problem. Yes I am a newbie to this software. I do however have 23 years in manufacturing and 8 years programming Zeiss Calypso.
