  • Automated tips program?

    Hi everyone! I need your help if possible.

    My shop used MM4 before I worked here and there is a program for tip calibration. My boss is looking for something like this for PC-Dmis. I do not think pcd has such a thing, and I didn't find much in favor when I searched the forum.

    Does anyone know of a way to calibrate tips via a program? We are really looking for less operator interaction. Any ideas?

      Sure -

      You write a program to do that.

      Don't remember the exact commands (not at the CMM at the moment) -

      After the LOAD PROBE command, insert AUTOCALIBRATE. Do this for every
      probe file. Depending, you may need MOVE POINTS in between, and you may
      need to have the probes to calibrate in a particular order. Set up PARAMETER SETS in the probe dialougue box in the MEASURE window.

      Have a meeting to attend - gotta go!

        If you have a rack with multiple probes make sure you cal the master tip first with the "YES tool moved" setting.
        I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

                    You are right. A 2x20 is the tip recommended to certify the probe rack. And I keep it in slot one on all CMM's with a rack.

                      Becky,

                      MM4 had a seperate program because it required you to calibrate the probe angles prior to calling that probefile into the program. If you were programming, and you needed another angle, you had to exit the part program, add the angle, calibrate and go back in. PC-DMIS has this built in. You can calibrate the probe at anytime once a program is open. If you are using the probefile in multiple programs, Ctrl-ALT-P will bring up the probe utility window, and you click "MARK USED". It will only highlight the probe angles your program uses. This eliminates the need to qualify all the tips in the file. However, if your not using A0B0 in the program, I would do that one first, then do the others. The other examples (AUTO/CALIBRATE) given in this thread will work for those people who don't know how to do this, and makes it idiot proof for those non cmm operators.

                        Thanks Kenny, but the issue is that they want a program for the 3rd shift techs to run once a week. Something we can put up on an STI screen. (I guess I should mention that our operators do not actually see PC-Dmis, and they can't have access to it.) I do as you suggest, but what do I know?

                          As former MM4 (and AVAIL) programmer, I remember the nightmare of having to calibrate all of the different probe files. The AutoQual routine in pc-dmis allows you to qual as many parameter sets of probes as you want. Each parameter set can have the order user-defined, so there should be no issues with probes smacking anything.
                          And, yes, I know how to "Mark Used" to qual tip angles in a program. (This is a handy tool for those who don't know how to use AutoQual.) That only gets you the tips in that prog.
