So I have been in inspection for 10 year but only have had the first class for pc-dmis. I have written a few small program already but was wondering what is a average amout of hours before taking the second class. I do know GD & T and I am working on a B & S global image 3.7 mr2.

I would recommend 2 or 3 months of programming, (at least, maybe 6), before you take the second class. Give yourself a chance to explore and learn on your own before going back. Then when you do go, you will be able to ask the questions you could not work out on your own, and the questions that you would not have known enough to ask if you took it too soon after the 1st. My $0.02 and you were overcharged.sigpic"Hated by Many, Loved by Few" _ A.B. - Stone brewery

By the time you take the second, you will aready know all that they will teach. Bring with you a part some CAD and a list of questions of things you are having problems with. I say take it as soon as you feel you are ready. All it going to teach you is how to use CAD. Good Luck. You already done the hard part. Just remember this web site. This is where the real learning is done.sigpicSummer Time. Gotta Love it!

Speaking as someone who just got back from the CAD++ Curves & Surfaces class, follow everyone else's advice so far. I took the Basic class about 10 months ago and this one didn't really teach me much I didn't already know. It was mostly iterative alignments (which we use in just about every program, so I'm well aware of how to use them) and scanning. I hadn't done a whole lot of scans here and I did pick up some useful information, but most of that information could have been found in F1 if I had looked for it. But the most valuable part of the class, as others have said, is bringing your own questions and basically picking their brains on what you don't understand. Eh, whatever, I learned some stuff, got a certificate that says I learned some stuff, and got four days away from work. I did find out enough about scripting from the guy giving the class to know that I really want to go to the advanced class, though.

Oh one more thing, there are no stupid questions here, but there will be some stupid and most likely smart alect answers, well not here but definatly in the off-topic sections. Go here to learn Programming stuff, go there to learn how so survive Programming stuff.sigpicSummer Time. Gotta Love it!

Engage mind..........level 2 PLZZZZZ
Funny,,,,,,,
My Curves & Surfaces teacher said 1 important thing when we started.
"All of that stuff you learned in the first class & have been playing with for a while?? Forget it. That will get you used to running the machine,...."
He was correct. Look for total control of the equipment. X+,etc,... is NOT where the machine thinks it is,....it is where YOU tell the machine it is.

Don't take the class to soon. Give yours a little time to get to know the software and a chance to learn what questions to ask. It was with a different software but I took the advanced class to soon(had to...long story)
and I did not get near as much out of the class as I could if I had some more programming time under my belt.

If you are a good bench inspector you will be fine. If you have been coasting at the bench doing receiving inspection of bolts, nuts, and gaskets this will break you. The most important things to have here are a propensity to learn, an imagination, and thick skin. If you have those you will excel on the CMM and this forum. Use both often and you will know when the time is right young Jedi. Best bet is to store away your nagging questions (that can’t be answered or understood here) be they related to Curves and Surfaces or not and bring them all up when you go. You will be ready to go after time with some successes and time with some failures alike, a good rule of thumb would be when you are cocky enough to be confident but still get blindsided by a mistake (a point we all will never get past). Like these guys said take YOUR part(s) and YOUR cad file(s) with you. Welcome fist to the world of CMM programming and most importantly, to this forum.
One last and very important question, and no this is not a trick or baiting. Do you like beer?

By the agreed upon conventions a Hijack cannot be implemented by mention of alcohol, for that is far too easy.
This is however yet another instance of the Cleveadian Law which states that all threads will eventually turn to alcohol if they continue long enough.
