  • ver4.0+ report screenshots

If anyone has time, and is running ver4.0 or higher can you post a screen shot of what you're reports look like? I want to upgrade to 4.1, (i have 4.0 but have had no luck in getting a good looking report edited) but want to see what other people are doing with the report editor before I do the upgrade. I also thought I remembered reading that you can show feature control frames in the graphics display window? Is that right?

Again, only if ya have time.

    Thanks.

I am running 4.1 and am using the stock "textonly" report. I have not found a need to make my own at this time. I did adjust the stock "textonly" template to include the page number (easy add), and also made the comments show up in black (easy add). Other than that, it is the stock template. Most of my programs already have "Hyper-Reports" for set up so I have not needed to make a set up report template (I'll get to that hurdle when I get there not before; too busy) Just an FYI.

the new reports look pretty but say you have a dimension that is one micron out of spec and you manager says "make it good" you can't. since the reports are created in templates they out put the rtf on a grid that actually makes each dimension a picture, not text so you cannot edit. this would work great in a perfect world with perfect parts.

i will be reverting to V3.7MR3 until they give you an option to use old style reporting.

tech support doesn’t even refer to 4.0 now anyway, they are saying 4.1 allot. 4.0 is pretty much obsolete.

In Winston's word document you will have to view it in print layout. That is the only way they show up correctly.

Hey Winston, when I played with 4.0 my reports looked just like yours, and I didn't mind that...but, I was trying to find a way to turn off all the background colors. I print out about 60-80 pages a day (duplexed!) for reports, and I'd blow through the ink way to fast with those purty blue backgrounds turned on. Is there a way to turn off that feature?

Print>report printer setup>uncheck "print background colors", refresh report screen. Done.

                Winston,

Thanks for posting that I was curious too.

It should be noted that the dimensions are objects and they are not recognized by Visual Basic's rich text box. I wrote a front end GUI with Visual Basic and I output an rtf of the results from PCDMIS to a directory that the front ends picks it up from to display the report to the operator so the operator never sees PCDMIS. I just ran Winston's report through my front end and it displayed a blank report, apparently Visual Basic's rich text box does not recognize objects. I don't know how many of you are doing the same but I thought it might be worth noting. Thanks again Winston, like I said in another post you guys running 4+ are going to be answering a lot of questions around here. Although I don't have much faith in 4.0 life goes on and versions will keep being released every month or so and people need to stay up to speed.

they need to give us a choice on reporting, old vs new, instead of saying "here it is, now us it and like it". atleast with dimensions they give you the choice of "legacy dimensioning" (the old style).

What version is that option in? I don't remember seeing it in 4.0

                          These are available as expressions:

ELAPSEDTIME() - the amount of time taken for execution
FILENAME() - the filename of the part program (full path)
MEASSCALE() - the scale factor used when measuring
NUMMEAS() - the number of dimensions reported
NUMOUTTOL() - the number of reported dimension that were out of tolerance
PARTNAME() - the part name (same as in the file header)
PAGE() - the current page number
REGSETTING(<expr1>, <expr2>) - PC-Dmis registry setting, expr1 is the section and expr2 is the entry
REVNUM() - the revision number (same as in the file header)
SECTION() - the current section number
SERNUM() - the serial number (same as in the file header)
STATCOUNT() - the statistics count (same as in the file header)

put that "PAGE()" text without quotes into the report template

Also, be sure to place it in a field that accepts reporting expressions. For example, drag a Text object onto the report template, right-click on it and change the "Text" property of the object to read "=PAGE()" (no quotes and don't forget the = sign). After changing it press ENTER or TAB. Just clicking out of the property won't save your change.

See the "About Reporting Expressions" topic in the help file for more information on working with these.
