  • running more than 1 version question?

when you open a new program an this probe warning comes up <see pic>, what is the "newer functionality" that may not be available? i know by expirience that if you hit yes then it will screw up your probe for the older version, but what does hitting yes do for the newer version?

Ya know, I don't think it really does anything. I think that it is a CYA from the people at Wilcox. I mean, the probes have been the same 'ole thing forever (and we all know they wouldn't mess with something like THAT, now don't we?), you would think that there wouldn't be anything new, would you?

As far as 4.0 and 4.1 are concerned it has to do with scanning I believe. They have a new scan called freeform. Maybe some other stuff too. Saving your program back from 4.0 or 4.1 to an earlier version is how to get your probe to be useable in the older version. I have been staying with 4.1 for everything now, but a little FYI each time you save back to 3.7 the CAD file will increase in size. I believe that they are addressing this issue or have.

        probe functionality

When going to 3.7 it allows you to rotate and wrist the view of your probe.
This is helpful on star probes etc. I'm not sure at exactly what rev level this
occurs as we jumped from 3.2063 to 3.7.

I'm with Matt on this one..

I don't think anything should change with the probe. After all its just a graphic representation with a tip center offset associated with each angle.

What good reason would there be to change those two simple things from version to version?

They are just improving the graphics and functionality. The probes and center
            offsets do not physically change.
