  • GRAPHICS ON PROBE ARE WRONG

This one is a Killer. Pc-dmis has a way of being impressive one time then ugly another time.
When working with CAD MODELS why the F--K does the graphic display of the Probe tip angle go array for no reason. It will be correct sometimes, then without any reason will graphically rotate. Please note that this situation does NOT occurr until one rotates the CAD axis to the CMM axis. With this situation OFF-LINE programming is impossible on involved parts.

Any Feed Back would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ~

Version 3.7 right? I've been fighting it too. I've found that when you pull up the auto features dialog it usually, most of the time, typically, almost always displays the probe in the correct orientation.

      Work Around Only????

      Bill,
Thanks ~ Hows does one Graphically run the program with the auto Features Box open??? I think you can only run individual features with the box open. This would be a work around that really wouldn't be feasible for large programs unless you know a trick. Please advise ~ I do appreciate the feed back.
Hoping to get root cause fix for the problem.

      Thanks

        same problem

        Hi gary
We have the same problem, it really makes collision detection impossible as well as making off-line programming difficult. as you said it only makes it worse when we align cad axis with machine, no help with your question i know, just very interested in the answer

Are you sure your probe head orientation is correct?

            Gary,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you earlier. I work in a gage shop so I seldom program off line and the majority of my programs are only run a few times. Once I have them written I don't concern myself with the graphics of the probe. This only began happening when they changed to the new CAD display engine so I'm guessing that it has something to do with that.

              Let's address this differently.
You want the CAD (probe CAD as well) to appear correct. This requires your alignment to alter the machine coordinates to CAD, as opposed to the other way.

              Example.

Your part sit with CAD X+ up, CAD Y+ to machine X+.

Take your manual hits for temporary manual alignment, including leveling CAD X+, and rotating CAD Y+. After taking the points, and before your alignment, switch work plane to X+. Then go into alignment. The CAD will look crazy UNTIL you finish and leave the alignment.

              So,....

              I am leveling X+ (machine Z+)
              I am rotating Y+ (machine X+)
Setting origins per CAD (set origin to a feature, then adjusting it to what CAD says it should be.

              THEN CAD = Part.

email with questions, hate mail, etc,.....

                Paul,

Even when you're fully aligned in 3.7 MR3 the probe is not always displayed correctly in the CAD window. Alignments are not an issue here, it's a graphics display problem that started when they changed the CAD engine within PC-Dmis.

Had the problem 7 years ago when I started at this company. Didn't like it.... Figured it out..... not a problem since.

If MR3 did this to you,.......roll back......
