  • Step file translation

Hello everyone, I just installed 2009 and seem to be having trouble importing a step file. I have imported a 2000 k iges file no problem but a 200 k step file keeps crashing at the " Drawing Surfaces" step of the importation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have your design folks reoutput the file. Sometimes thats all it takes. I bet there are hundreds if not thousands of untrimmed surfaces in it and thats why PCDmis is leaving a pile on your desk top.

I am using customer supplied files so I can't have them redone, also I can bring in a 300k step file but anything larger then that is where it pukes, (just found that out by trial and error).

Have the customer convert to Iges. Usually works for me.

How much onboard memory do you have?

Unfortunately getting the customer to redo the files is out of the question, we have 3 gig of memory.

if you have solidworks you can import the file into it and heal the untrimmed surfaces, etc. using the import diagnostics wizard. Then resave the file in the desired format. This usually works for me.
