  • Accessing PC-dmis with CMM machine turned off

We have a B&S global Image machine w/pc. Sometimes I need to look at program info but I don't need to use the CMM. Pc-dmis doesn't want to
function without the CMM ready to run, with the pc turned on of course.
My manual machine is no problem. Is there something I'm missing? Should I be able to work in Pc-dmis without the CMM powered up?
    Thanks in advance...

No, Starting with 3.5, if you have an online seat, you are not able to use PC-DMIS to look at old programs, I believe that you can start a new program....thats it. You have to have an offline seat to be able to use PC-DMIS without machine powered up and communicating with PC.

PRE V3.7 (and possibly V3.6) you can rename the INTERFAC.DLL file and Pcdmis will function as an offline seat. I have a copy of my V3.5 directory with this file renamed and use it when I want to do something or check something in a program when I don't have the machine on (which is NOT very often, but it does happen). They fixed the loophole in V3.7 (and possibly V3.6) so that this no longer works. Just another reason to keep older versions installed and ready to use on the computer.

Don't you have an "OFFLINE" option ??? Go to your START menu ALL PROGRAMS & then to PC-DMIS, you should have "ONLINE" "OFFLINE" & "OPERATOR MODE"

Rename the .dll to what? Keep it in same folder? And is there a special way you then open up PC DMIS as a offline seat?
          Thanks.......

Sorry, the internet was down for a bit....
Just rename it anything you want. Like I said, I made a copy of the install directory (renamed it PCDOFFLINE) then renamed teh INTERFAC.DLL file to INTERFAC-BU.DLL, then all you need to do is double click on PCDLRN.EXE in that directory and you will be 'offline'. You don't get a true offline seat, you will not be able to open more than 1 program at a time.

                No offline option, running 3.7.

                  run "offline" through a network?

                  Good Morning Matt,

Do you have a trick up your sleeve to bypass the port lock and run offline from another PC?

                  Thanks

And of course any such information, if available, would not be welcome on a forum that is run by Hexagon Metrology! The 'offline' option is available as an add on to existing seats.

It works fine from the PC with the port lock on it. I want to go through my network and program offline while operators are running parts.

I guess a person has to buy B&S's SME (Software Maintenance Extortion) and an offline seat to do this.

                          Oh Well.

Supposedly, if you read you software agreement, it states that the seat is for the cmm, (not independant)...therefore, if the cmm isnt there, software wont work. We had this talk at a user group meeting after 3.5 came out.
