  • Star Alignment

I'm kind of new at using star probes. All the CMM's I've worked with have had indexable probes. Is there a good way to set the star so all the stylii are pointing true and not a an angle?

The way I have aligned star probes that works well is:
    1) Put (2) bolts in lock down holes in surface plate (bolts in line either in 'X' or 'Y')
    2) Rest a long scale or parallel against bolts
    3) Use (2) 1-2-3 against scale spaced so I can drive the center styli on star between
    4) With the star only finger tight drive styli thru catching the sides on the 1-2-3
    5) Tighten star then check that both side styli touch 1-2-3 blocks at the same time

      Thanks. I'll give it try.
