  • Please, please let this work...

Not necessarily a question here, but if you guys have any advice that might help I would certainly take it.....
We have 3.7 mr2 running, mr3 loaded and will be making a full switch over this afternoon.
I say a full switch over because each time I have to switch to a different version, I gotta make all my copies etc., and tell the new version "hey, I got a few probe racks, please take note of their existence and use them accordingly!"

So here's my rant for the day......3.7 mr2 sucks! We have crashed several times in the last week--can't make heads or tails of exactly why. We thought it was related to having a program open in the background offline while another was running, but guess what.....system proved me wrong today. Crashed, and for the life of me, I can't tell why.

If I have to re-calibrate all 8 of my probe tips again I am not gonna be a happy camper.

Feel free to join my misery with any additional rants you may have on the subject......

Yup, you *WILL* be much happier with MR3. In the meantime I prescibe 3 or 4 units of alcohol, (preferably Whiskey), every evening until you can not remember MR2.

As for joining the rant, I have said it several times before and I will continue to say it loudly until B&S/Willcox/Hexagon begin to listen. Your track record for the last couple of years stinks. Maybe you like using software that just shuts down on you frequently for no reason whatsoever, but *NONE* of your customers do. Maybe if I lay it out for you:
      3.5 - JUNK3

      3.5 MR1 - BUGGY JUNK

3.5 MR2 - Ok, but still booted you out often

3.6 - PURE AND UTTER JUNK SO BAD TECH SUPPORT SAYS DON'T USE

      3.7 - JUNK

      3.7 MR1 - JUNK

      3.7 MR2 - JUNK

      3.7 MR3 - GOOD, FINALLY, best version since 3.2***

4.0 - PURE AND UTTER JUNK SO BAD TECH SUPPORT SAYS DON'T USE.

Now that is a track record to be proud of, don't you think?

Maybe if we all paid our SMA money happily they could afford to actually get some things right.

Just my experience, but with 3.7 MR3 I still get booted out at least 3 times a week. It's not nearly as bad as MR2 was, but it still aggravates me. I always make sure autosave is turned on, but you can still lose quite a few features in the 5 minutes between saves, like I did today.

I got in the habit of ctrl+s a long time ago. Now, I do it after almost every feature or dimension.

I'm still using 3.5 MR2. Various 3.7 versions are in the drawer and will stay until I hear better reports.

Through more trial and error... lots of error, we found out that each time the thing crashed was when the hyper report was trying to load/print at the end of the program currently running, and we had another program open in the background offlind. We were'nt doing anything in the other program, it was just open.
So I have been pissing and moaning for the last two years that I needed a big beefy computer so that I could multitask and be more efficient.
Well gues what, I got my computer, and now thanks to pcdmis, I look less efficient then I was when using the darn micron that the machine came with....

So, our short term solution, we put a comment in the program right before the hyper report, to tell the techs and myself to close any other programs now, then it will print and run ok.

I don't know about anyone else, but it doesn't sound like a good idea to have one program running and work on another one. I don't believe that was the intent of that ability? I use it for copy/paste functions only. I know I have had 2 programs open at once and the items I thought were going into one program were actually going into the other. If you need to off-line program that much you would be better off purchasing an off-line seat (I know there expensive, but so are PH10MQ's etc. etc.).

                      Jimi,

I have been programming ofline while running for a long time. Yesterday I had the issue that you are talking about....The running program decided to look at the probe from the program that I was working on offline on.????!!!

We are not trying to program so much, as just perform some editing functions or create hyper reports in the offline program. I have said to the big wigs, that what we can do offline is limited without an offline seat, but you know how well that goes over.......

                          Shelley,

You are going to love this one...from what I understand, Ver 4.0 has dropped the ablility to use Hyper reports ! So, I guess if you choose to go to ver 4 later, you will have to fix all that. Isn't that nice..?

I have been using 4.1 beta for the last couple of weeks off and on, and as of this week that is all I have been using. In fact I have now had the off shifts begin to use it. I have found no major bugs in this version as of yet. there are some niceities (sp?) that I do like. Ask if wanting more info?
