  • I've Got The Squeeks!

My CMM (B&S Xcel) has started squeeking. It is kind of a squeek, kind of a screech, kind of a ringing sound. It happens sometimes when moving in the ±X axis.

Anyone have this problem? Any guesses?

My Xcel 7-10-7 does this sometimes in the Y axis. Sounds like its coming from the drive side.

I've had them squeek before on my old small excel. Usually a good cleaning stopped mine.

I pulled the shroud off of the back of the bridge. It doesn't look like any of the air bearing ways have been rubbed. I wonder if it might be the drive rack. There is a tensioner on the non-geared side of the rack. I wonder if that is what causes the squeek. It looks like that side of the rack has been rubbed.

We have a sheffeild Discovery II that had squeaks. Had it cleaned and it's gone. I was told it was the drive belt system.
I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

Our MicroXcel 7-10-5 has had an occasional squeek in the Y axis since it was purchased new back in the late 90's. The service people who have calibrated and repaired it over the years say it is no problem.

Kaeopectate helped mine..... Oh SQUEEKS, not SQUIRTS.
Cleaning helped . Alcohol on the bearing surfaces. (It always comes back to alcohol!)
When in doubt, post code. A second set of eyes might see something you missed.

So, I assume that I wouldn't wan't to use any that is too flavorful otherwise I might have some residue. Probably best to use vodka or bacardi 151?

I have a global Image (only 3 yrs old) and have had to replace the gear and belt once. Now it needs to be done again. It is the X axis also. You may want to look at that.

Very good TRD. I used to have an Excel 7107. When it squeeked, I either had to tighten the belt or replace it

This only seems to do it at one end of the travel. I don't think a belt would cause this.

If you got glass scales they tend to do that when the smallest amount of dust gets between the scale and encoder.
