Is there a way to dimension basic dimensions other than just letting them show up red without any tolerance. It's kind of an eye sore on the report.

You can have them show with just about anything you want. You can change the headings for what is shown on the report. If you have it only show NOMINAL, ACTUAL, and DEVATION, it should not show up as out of tolerance since there is no tolerance for the point.

Your right Bob I do have them dimensioned in TP. The powers want to see the Basics on the print out also. Gotta give'm what they want!

Thanks Matt I will fix them. I thougth it was something like that.

You gotta love it when the customer asks to see the basics on the report. Nothing like defeating the whole purpose of basic dimensions! Basics are supposed to be just that, BASIC! No tolerance! They are supposed to be controlled by the GD&T, but they're too lazy or don't know how to properly read a CMM report. So, of course, we get the short end of the stick due to their short-comings. Yeesh!

The only thing worse is being asked to measure "reference" dimensions!

I know, I asked twice because I wasn't sure I heard it right. Whatever they want I guess.

Matt I am down at the CMM now and I have another question. Does your suggestion apply to the whole report? I really only want to negate the tolerance on a handful of dimensions. Can I do it on a case by case basis?

yeah set the format code to nominal, actual , dev in front of the selected dimensions and then set it back to what ever you normally report after and dimension the rest.

                    Devaney,

place your cursor before the dimension and goto the edit menu, preferences, parameters, and dimension tab. Click OK and it will insert a parameter change for everything below it.
I used to be high on life but I built up a tolerance.

Thats exactly what I did. Thank you guys. I think it should be easier than that though. Why not a check boxn to allo wresults without the application of tolerance.

                      Thanks again guys.

Of course I did not know that. I always constucted one, and they asked how come the point is perfect I tell them it has to be its a basic point is space, then they tell me they want to see where it is off location, I tell them it can't be, then they say well these 3 holes can give you your basic point, and I tell them bingo, those 3 holes will tell you where they are off from basic, or am I to write down 3 number for that basic dimension. By them they know they are lost and say never mind just leave it where it is. So just to pi$$ them off I ask them so I can take it off the report, and they always say no, if its on the print I want it on the report. Then they usally leave knowing that I know what I am talking about and they don't

Another way to go would be to put an extremely high value on the tolerance. Then it would never show up RED.

(Of course then they'll ask where you got the tolerance from)

If you do that and elect not to show the tolerance, deviation, and outol in your report you will have no red and they won't know what the tolerance is.

                            Now we're on to something.

                            Thanks

I keep on being asked to turn on the "green font" cable as well as including "basic" & "reference" dimensions.
