  • More printing info needed

    Ive spent too much time prowling the forum and messing with the syntax for the printing command. I have a program that runs fully. the first three pages I want to print. the other 9 pages after that I dont want to print. I want to save the file with all 12 pages. and I only want the program to prompt once to save the full file.

    I spent much time in 4.2 trying do achieve this. I am back in 3.73 and still having zero success. It has been done before, on this machine, but I cannot find a reliabale backup of the program that had this in working order.

    the index leaves out the whole part about which "mode" is for what.

    right now I have a print command at the end of what I want it to print down to, and one at the end of the program to save everything in its entirity, the code below is generic, just to show you what im looking at.

    Code:

                PRINT/REPORT,EXEC MODE=START,$
                  TO_FILE=ON,PROMPT,$
                  TO_PRINTER=ON,DRAFTMODE=OFF,$
                  TO_DMIS_REPORT=OFF,FILE_OPTION=INDEX,FILENAME=,$
                  REPORT_THEORETICALS=NONE,REPORT_FEATURE_WITH_DIMENSIONS=NO,$
                  PREVIOUS_RUNS=DELETE_INSTANCES
    there are these options. plus there is the option to f9 the command and select a print box as well. (which looks just like the file<printing<edit window print setup)

    Is this a one time thing...or do you want this program to always only print the first 3 pages?

    If its only one time you can just use the print command from the menu and then you have the option of choosing how many of the pages to print.
    Lately, it occurs to me
    What a long, strange trip it's been.

      I think two print commands will do this.

      One print command after the first three pages. Print to printer and print to file overwrite checked.

      Second print command at end, print to printer off, and print to file append.

      Something like that....

        I want this to be the set in stone operation
        Is this a one time thing...
        heres what I have now brian:

        PRINT/REPORT,EXEC MODE=END,$
        TO_FILE=ON,PROMPT,$
        TO_PRINTER=ON,DRAFTMODE=OFF,$
        TO_DMIS_REPORT=OFF,FILE_OPTION=INDEX,FILENAME=,$
        REPORT_THEORETICALS=NONE,REPORT_FEATURE_WITH_DIMEN SIONS=NO,$
        PREVIOUS_RUNS=DELETE_INSTANCES
        ~~~~~~~~~~then at the end of the prg~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        PRINT/REPORT,EXEC MODE=END,$
        TO_FILE=ON,APPEND=C:\PCDMISW\Part Programs 3.73\BEHR\7393\WORK IN PROGRESS\BHR 7393 IP NEW offset plate002.RTF,$
        TO_PRINTER=OFF,DRAFTMODE=OFF,$
        TO_DMIS_REPORT=OFF,FILE_OPTION=INDEX,FILENAME=,$
        REPORT_THEORETICALS=NONE,REPORT_FEATURE_WITH_DIMEN SIONS=NO,$
        PREVIOUS_RUNS=DELETE_INSTANCES
        it still is not doing what I want it to. can you explain what mode=start vs mode=end would do?
        also should I have the "file<printing<edit window print setup" checked also? (it is currently) this is for the dmis output I believe
          EXEC MODE is new for me, but according to the help, I don't think it will make a difference. Don't have the global print on, that will just add more variables at this point.
          Questions
          1. What is it doing now?
          2. Why are you using prompt for the first print command?
            I have turned off global print, and still have global file save on, just like I have in all of my other programs. with it set to :
            ~~~halfway thru the prg.

            PRINT/REPORT,EXEC MODE=START,$
            TO_FILE=ON,PROMPT,$
            TO_PRINTER=ON,DRAFTMODE=OFF,$
            TO_DMIS_REPORT=OFF,FILE_OPTION=INDEX,FILENAME=,$
            REPORT_THEORETICALS=NONE,REPORT_FEATURE_WITH_DIMEN SIONS=NO,$
            PREVIOUS_RUNS=DELETE_INSTANCES

            ~~~~~end of prg:
            PRINT/REPORT,EXEC MODE=START,$
            TO_FILE=ON,APPEND=C:\PCDMISW\Part Programs 3.73\BEHR\7393\WORK IN PROGRESS\BHR 7393 IP NEW offset plate002.RTF,$
            TO_PRINTER=OFF,DRAFTMODE=OFF,$
            TO_DMIS_REPORT=OFF,FILE_OPTION=INDEX,FILENAME=,$
            REPORT_THEORETICALS=NONE,REPORT_FEATURE_WITH_DIMEN SIONS=NO,$
            PREVIOUS_RUNS=DELETE_INSTANCES
            with these settings it only saves and prints the back 9 pages
              also the reason the first one is set to prompt is because I want the program to execute and then have a save as dialog box pop up to save the report. ill double check everything again to see exactly what does what
