Anybody have a tried and true (and quick and dirty) method of checking the accuracy of a machine?
A little background: There is some "disagreement" here about our Mitutoyo CMM. Some here think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and the machine is SOOOO accurate, and can do no wrong. I think it's one big pile of crap and I'd give someone 10 bucks to take it off my hands. Now I am the one who does all the programming, and uses it all the time. It is a "Gantry" type and I'm sure it was great in it's day. But it has seen better days, time has moved on, and has not been nice to this machine. Mitutoyo does not carry some replacement parts for this machine, what they do have costs an arm and a leg.
Long story, short. I'm looking to have some quick and dirty way to check the accuracy of the machine. If anything, to maybe put my mind at ease to realize that it is still a good machine.
Never mind....in typing all this, I thought of something. I will, however, take any and all advice.
