Solid view wont appear?

I am having trouble getting the solid view to show. It used to. The power went out one day and some things on the computer got reset. When I import a solid file it shows up briefly but then disappears. It will show the wireframe view if I uncheck the solid box. The solid is there, it just does not appear. I Have tried changing my monitor settings, pixels size etc. Any suggestions appreciated.
