  • not on tip list

I have a tip A-5000-7812 renishaw that I cannot find on my tip list. What do I do now? is there some where I can get it or how do I create it?

You have to use the "userprobe.dat" file and add it there.

Captain, what exactly is the probe. I can write the text for you and then you can add it to your probe.dat file.

It is on your hard disc drive in the 'PCDMIS folder', where everything runs from located alphabetically in the P's. You need to 'open it with' & choose notepad or wordpad. You can then 'manipulate' the contents as below. I too have a couple of probes to put in & copy pasted this little lot in readyness. Just short of a Roundtuit @ the present.

Here is some tip data from the probe.dat file

          sphere 0 0 -10 5
          hotspot 0 0 -10 0 0 1 5 5 ball
          endtip

Change the Sphere to -102.5 instead of -10
Change the HOTSPOT to the same.

This will put the 'ball' of the tip at the correct distance from the threads. You will also want to change the 'name' of the tip, change tip5x10mm to waytoo****long so that it will showup as a unique tip in the list.

The cylinder can be changed from -10 to -100 with the diameter (2.5) changed to match the diameter of the probe. LEave the -7, that is where it starts from, the -10 is where it goes to. Basically, you are building the probe "DOWN" from the threads (where it connects).

It's in there. It's called a shank probe not a cylinder probe.
