  • Recall external alignment

I'm running 3.7mr1 and I cannot get my saved external alignment to recall.

The .aln file is in the PCDMIS folder but I cannot find a "recall external" in the alignment box. According to the help file there is supposed to be a I've tried typing it in but it wouold let me get any farther than the name, it stops taking input so I cannot enter the filename.

    TIA

You just use the drop-down window/list at the top, it should say "STARTUP or something like that.

It should have the last alinment you did listed in the drop down. It will be startup like Matt said if it's a new program. There is also a startup drop down for views

It should be in your alignment pulldown

It should be in your alignment pulldown unless your "search path" is not set correctly.

Aduh..... I was not looking in the right place.

Thank you for the help. It is greatly appreciated.

          I do like 3.7 more than 3.5.

It is best to keep your external alignments program in the same folder as the program, if you save the program somewhere else you have to do the same to the External program.

I didn't know I had to save the program that I created the alignments in. Is it necessary? Once an alignment is created and saved I didn't think you would have to save the prg.....

Well thats kinda the idea of an external alignment. This way you can set up your gage, and create different programs without having to create a alignment for each one. I call my say 326ExtAln. Then I save that. Then I will create a program say to check fixture 326Fix.prg In there I recall external alingment. Then I write my 326GRR In that I recall the 326ExtAln and so on. with the Part program the Cap program. As long as I dont bump or move it its fine. And I dont have to keep doing those annoying manual alignments. Oh yea, I will always have a DCC algnment in everyprogram.

Yes, you need to save both programs

Yes, you need to save both programs. I call the alignment program 1234567-Alignment and the part program 1234567-FULL or 1234567-CAPABILITY for example...

Actually on my behalf I am just BORED today. Typically I do not have to wait all day for a 2D drawing and a 3D cad model but it has just been one of those days. I figured it was my turn to assist rather than ask for assistance.

2 days and 1 hour to go before I am out of here for 3 weeks. I CANNOT WAIT ! ! !

                            All that aside...

I might actually make it to 200 posts before the week is out. Probably in the T.G.I.F. thread...

I am thinking of my GeoMeasure days and I wanted to apply the same technique to PC-DMIS. I want to recall my exteral elignment of the part set up (XYZ zero) on the Rayco plate, then go back and remeasure all of the datums in DCC saving as A0, A1, etc. In GeoMeasure I could measure and save an alignment, then recall it telling the software/CMM where the part was.
