  • Editing the comment box?

When opening the comment box, it states, " Please edit comment text." Does anyone know how to change this to state something else like--"This is Dimension..."

Highlight it and type whatever you want. To be safe I put "quotes" around string information.

I think the question was how to change the default "Please edit comment text." to some other text. Or did I make this too difficult?

You're probably right, I think I was over simplifying it. We'll have to wait for Towndog's reply. I'm going to give him 30 minutes and if he does not reply start talking about beer on his thread.

        oops too late

Just an aside I was speaking with one of the Wilcox engineers that lives in my area. It was at a User Group Meeting and I have asked a few times now, if they could highlight the text they have in there for easy insertion.

Did I miss the beer discussion? I like beer! I get to sub in a summer bowling league tonight - what a perfect excuse to drink beer! Beer! Beer! Beer! One of you guys will have to teach me how to home brew someday. Is that against the law anywhere?

I know it is lengthy but browse this thread. We did start to get heavy into brewing in this thread, there is some good info for beginners here:

Thanks Craiger - I'd really like to give this a try. I bet my neighbors would like for me to try this too!

It's gotta be coded into PCDMIS. But, if you want to repeat something, just copy and paste the comment command. It's not that easy to highlight the thing and type in what you want. Is there something you are trying to accomplish?

instead of inserting a comment, just start typing "comment" into the edit window then use the F7 and F8 buttons to tab through what type of comment you want. once you have that established tab over the the text then start typeing. It automatically highlights the text. It's alot easier than it sounds.

Yes, I agree that his seems to be hard coded.

Having said that, it is possible to recreate the Comment dialog box using VB code in some other application and have that insert your comments for you. You could then make the default value for the text box where you type in your comment to be whatever you like.

I've attached an example of a custom Comment dialog box that I created in MS Excel (Excel 2003). When you open the .xls file and click Enable Macros, the dialog box automatically launches, and you can insert comments within PC-DMIS. Click the Show Excel button on the dialog box for details.

It's not perfect, but it may give some of you ideas of what you can do. I've also uploaded it to the WAI's Custom Script Repository as an example in PC-DMIS automation.
