  • Jog Box Z Axis CHange

    Hi all,

I am sure this has been asked befor, but my searches showed nothing.

We have a duel arm DEA and one of our jogboxes has the z polarity reversed on the knob, that is to say, clocksie on one is +Z clockwise on the other is -Z.

Needless to say this causes lots of near misses'.

We have searched the terminal screen through and through to see where to change it.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

You need to get into your DOWNL.OAD file and scroll down about 2/3 of the way and look for a line of code like this:
    #n23s10x0y0z0000

Change the last 0000 to uppercase FF

    should now read:
    #n23s10x0y0zFF

What this will do is cause the jog box to move up with CCW rotation and move down with CW rotation.

      Hi Guys.

It is possible to reverse X+ axis direction to X- direction to operate JogBox from the back end of M/C?

        Howdy gover_p!

Way to dig up a 9 year dormant thread! Hilton has retired. I hope he is enjoying his guitar. The advice he gave below only works if your controller uses a DOWNL.OAD file. Most newer controllers do not.

The best feature of the horribly designed UJB ( Universal Jog Box ) is that you can chose the location you are standing with regard to the machine and still drive as if you were standing at the front. If this is a super important feature for you, I bet Hexagon has many hundred of these "cord out the top designed and approved by idiots who never actually used a CMM to earn a living" they would love to unload.

Like all superior designs, the UJB's lifespan has been mercifully short. Now the hot new thing is the NJB ( New Job Box ), which by the few accounts I have heard, is a nice control. However it does not offer the 'axis reverse' feature you seek, to the best of my knowledge.

Presuming you have the trusty old traditional style jog box, you could just hold it backwards. With just a little practice this becomes routine. I did that for a while when I first started working with my desk at the rear of the CMM, but after a couple of years I became able to hold the box normally and drive the machine where I wanted it go regardless of which direction I was facing.

          Hi HTH

Thank you very much for your extensive reply, From what I understand there is no way to change the direction of the Jog box through the software nor controller.

As we now have to operate from the other end of the bed the only options we can think of are, as you said holding the jog box upside down. Or removing the joystick and rotating it 180° and then securing back in place.

It might be possible to change the direction depending upon the controller your CMM uses, or by switching to a UJB. Physically removing, rotating, & securing the joy stick is an idea I have not heard before. I think that doing so would also reverse the Y axis!

Have you tried standing backwards and using a mirror?
